The Mysticism of Music and Sound

  • 2 Warwick Crescent London, England, W2 6NE United Kingdom (map)

Music, according to Sufi teaching, is a small expression of the overwhelming and perfect harmony of the whole universe—and that is the secret of its amazing power to move us. In his book “The Mysticism of Sound, Music and Vibration”, mystic and musician Hazrat Inayat Khan explored what power lies in sound and vibration. He also described music as the religion of the future, drawing on teachings from a variety of spiritual traditions to show how music is at their very source and would one day become the means through which the Divine could be experienced, regardless of one's cultural, religious or linguistic background.

The morning session will focus on the healing that sound and vibration can bring to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.

The afternoon will explore music as a gateway into experiencing the Divine, and as a unifying force at a time of profound global crisis and fear of the “other”.

The event will close with an "interdevotional" session, with our guests sharing music and chants from each tradition.

The day is experiential, comprising both talks and music to give people an experience of the healing and unifying power of sound and music.
